trauma dump - origins

Growing up in my family, I was taught to keep my emotions and feelings to myself. I was “shy”, not anxious. I was an “emotional kid”, not depressed. I kept to myself, I wasn’t dissociating. My childhood was full of trauma, and although I don’t keep it bottled up anymore, I also know these memories can be triggering to people who had similar experiences in their childhood - so I’m cautious about talking about my past with anyone other than a professional. This song was my (sassy) response to a seemingly never ending stream of trauma dumping from my friends, family, and even some internet strangers. Dumping feels very one sided and was dragging me back to memories I wasn’t ready to face. I wanted to tell my story and shed some of this enormous weight I carry, but opted to listening to theirs instead. I didn’t want to be a burden. The first verse of this song is a typical conversation I’m having in my head while someone is unloading on me, wishing I could interrupt and do the same, but opting to hold back. “Don’t wanna talk about your problems, I got enough wanna solve em? I’m not a dump for your trauma, stop with the drama. I don’t really wanna tell you all about my momma, or growing up without a comma. I’d write it down if you wanted, tell you how I saw it, but you wouldn’t read it” Thanks for listening 🖤
